Position Summary

The Payroll Staff Accountant will have the responsibility for general ledger financial accounting for payroll including weekly and month end responsibilities, various reporting and projects for the payroll team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcilies weekly & semi-monthly payroll entries to post to the general ledger and work with the payroll and accounting team to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assists with the preparation of accurate and timely general ledger account reconciliations that pertain to payroll, including the payroll bank account.
  • Assists with the preparation of payroll month-end general ledger accounting for accruals.
  • Maintains the payroll general ledger mapping and department maintenance and establishment.
  • Conducts work in adherence with established policies for payroll and accounting.
  • Contributes to the internal and external audit processes by providing requested financial information in a timely manner.
  • Prepares monthly and ad hoc reports for the payroll team to distribute.
  • Supports the annual budget process for the Payroll Manager.
  • Contributes to projects as assigned within a defined scope of practice.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Career Path Definitions & Distinctions:

Level 1: Demonstrates a general understanding of generally accepted accounting principles in the U.S. relative to balance sheet, income statement and other comprehensive income accounts. Demonstrates ability to participate in the weekly and month-end close processes such as the posting of the payroll general ledger entries and accruals to the proper G/L periods and prepare balance sheet reconciliations. Demonstrates a general knowledge and the ability to learn financial systems, including NetSuite and ADP Workforce Now. Has the ability to locate and navigate through key reports in NetSuite and ADP, while understanding how data flows between the two systems.

Level 2: Demonstrates the ability and confidence to actively support the users of ADP and NetSuite to explain to them how data flows between the two systems. Is able to independently support the payroll team with department maintenance and set up, while mapping them to NetSuite. Demonstrates the ability to work with internal and external auditors for financial report and 401k audits.

 

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, 1-2 years previous accounting or related experience, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. A demonstrated ability to work as part of a fast-paced team in a collaborative environment is needed.

Outstanding relationship management skills and excellent listening, communication and problem-solving skills are expected. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and a strong background with MS Excel is required.
