Position Summary

Casella Waste Systems is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Billing Services to oversee the administration and optimization of our customer billing operations. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant billing processes, drives continuous improvement, and is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial and operational data.  The successful candidate will lead a team of billing systems administrators and billing analysts to work cross-functionally to develop solutions that support the scalability and reliability of our billing operations and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.

Hiring Range: $100,000-$130,000 per year based on experience

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Billing Systems Administrators and Analysts, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Develop and execute training programs to enhance team expertise in billing administration, systems and data protocols.

Billing Administration:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for automated customer billing tailored to the waste management industry.
  • Ensure customer billing accurately reflects charges for services, that payments are applied correctly, and disputes or inaccuracies are resolved promptly.

Data Integrity & Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain data quality standards to ensure accurate and consistent financial and operational data across all platforms.
  • Oversee assumption of billing processes for acquired entities, ensuring seamless incorporation into existing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, sales tax regulations and best practices for billing and data management.

System Optimization & Process Improvement:

  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to optimize billing systems, identify opportunities for automation, and streamline processes.
  • Lead initiatives to upgrade, integrate, or implement new billing technologies and systems to support business growth.

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Generate and analyze billing reports to track key performance metrics and identify trends.
  • Provide actionable insights based on data analysis to support decision-making and improve billing operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and enhance intelligent dashboards and reporting tools for better business insights.

Strategic Collaboration:

  • Partner with finance and operations teams to gather and address data management and functionality requirements.
  • Partner with third party vendors to optimize billing processes and provide a top-tier solution to meet customer needs.
  • Support departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change initiatives to enhance billing and data workflows.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated billing issues and complex customer accounts.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field, with proven experience in billing administration, data management, and process improvement. Strong leadership skills, acquisition integration expertise, and proficiency in financial systems and business intelligence tools are essential—preferably within the waste management or utility sector.


An advanced degree (MBA or relevant Master’s) or professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are preferred. Experience with the Sofpak billing system or similar platforms is highly desirable, along with solid knowledge of data management practices, including writing queries and generating reports.
